Het sieraad is in 1969 gevonden in een waterput in Wijk bij Duurstede. De broche is gemaakt van goud en ingelegd met verschillende kleuren glas, een rode halfedelsteen en parels langs de rand. Dat sieraden enkel ornamenteel zijn, is een te simpele voorstelling van zaken. Een broche bijvoorbeeld kan heel goed gebruikt worden om een kledingstuk als een mantel op zijn plaats te houden. Die functionaliteit staat in onze moderne echter in de schaduw van de esthetische kant. Een broche is tegenwoordig vooral een origineel statement voor stijl en een blijk van gevoel voor sieraden.
